Job update...

The first week is almost done at work and it has been a whirlwind!  I really don't think I can do justice with this post but here it goes…

First and foremost, I have a security badge!  Some people would think this is a "tool" symbol, but heck I am proud to wear it.  This may be influenced by how great I look good in my picture… no this is not conceded, but something I feel is a rare accomplishment.  One shot, one chance, and they shoot you.  Dress for success.  Boom!  Not only do I look good in it, but it makes me not look so much like a contractor because I can blend in with everyone else and I can have access to everything.

The second HUGE highlight is that I get to park in a parking ramp without paying!  For the past four years that I have lived off campus I have refused to buy a parking pass.  I always thought this was the dumbest thing.  You are already spending enough money and half the time you cannot find a place to park; however, at Best Buy it is entirely different.  The parking garage is ginormous… like Mall of America style.  The first day I got completely lost my car and walked around like a newbie.  Now you are thinking why didn't you write down where you parked…. well I did.  I just couldn't find what I wrote down, duh.  So the learning lesson is to have a car alarm so you can set it off with your keys.  I do not have this luxury.  Somehow I broke my car opener thing, so this results in me getting exercise.

The third thing is that my coworkers do online shopping during their down time.  This may explain why this girls are completely styling… there is no shortage on boots and fashionista glasses in the office.  They all wear boots (every single day and not the same pair), dresses, 'nerd' glasses, and dye their hair every six weeks.  I, on the other hand, have a budget.  I have one pair of boots that I bought at  TJ Maxx, I notice a couple of grey hair strands, and read the analyst manual instead of shopping online.  Yet, I am thankful that I have not totally because city-ified.  I contribute this to knowing our next place does not have that many closets and Dave Ramsey.

Finally, I probably should say a little more what I am doing.  Go to bestbuy.com and look at the online advertisements.  That is what I do.  I do the initial, second, and final proofing of each copy and the Thanksgiving book.  Basically look at the aesthetics, wording, disclaimers, special links, buying process, and placement.  It is absolutely crazy how much work goes into making a new one each week.   There are about 60 people on site between the print and digital inserts.  On my team there are five people.  I am strictly digital and have learned programs like SharePoint and Console already.  It's not boring because I know if I miss something on my 'tiles' I could potentially cost BB thousands of dollars.  No pressure :)

I'm sure I'll talk more once I get more time… until than dream of widgets, gadgets, and dual screens.

  1. Whenever I park in a maze I always snap a photo of the location with my phone's camera ;)
