Age Game

I have never been fond of asking other people their age.  Maybe it was because I was always mistake as  being older than my older brother (3 years difference)… of maybe it is because I knew some people cringe when age comes up… or for the fact it is irrelevant unless you plan on smoking, drinking, gambling, or you are a Bieber fan.  However yesterday my co-workers decided to play the age game in the elevator.  To be correct, another contractor brought it up and thought it would be fun.  She looks like a tween still so of course it would be fun for her.

So there I was stuck in an elevator traveling to the eighth floor.  I wasn't going to volunteer any information because I had a funny feeling it was going to get awkward… or I was going to make it awkward… either way it was bad news bears coming up!  Slowly the question went from person to person and they tried to guess.  The contractors are 22 and 23.  One of my supervisors is 22 and the other supervisor was a whooping 24.  I almost choked, but still hadn't said anything.  Seriously, I was going to be the oldest one?!  Ugh!  The elevator doors slide open and I was the first to exit and lead the pack back to the office.  I literally was sitting down when the same contractor suggested people guess my age.  And this is what I got as if I was on display and they were trying to figure out this creature -

Them: "You seem really well put together."
My internal dialogue: "You mean, I don't spend all my week's money in one day with online shopping."

Them: "You seem like you're more mature."
My internal dialogue: "You mean, I don't talk freely about pub crawling with my new supervisor."

Them: "You look a little older."
My internal dialogue: "Note, buy Melaleuca's anti-wrinkle cream next month..."

Then they guessed the age range because apparently it is too hard to say YOU LOOK OLD.  I am categorized as 25 to 28.  They were generous with the numbers… kind of admitting of how many cookies did you really eat?  You always go lower to make yourself feel better.  Darn it, I was getting sympathy for being 'older'.

I can honestly say this was the first time I felt OLD and I'm not even that old.  Maybe eMily needs to get her groove back and not talk about kitchen back splashes, but talk about the Biebs coming to MPLS.
