Undergraduate students will have the self-confidence and skills to contribute to his or her career field, community, and country upon graduation. In return, colleagues and society should trust and utilize the students’ potentials. Academics are continually changing; therefore, the only way to produce the finest undergraduate education is to rethink and revise methods and ideas, embed enthusiasm and optimism in instructing, present meaningful material to ignite students’ passions, and have each student search within themselves for his or her capabilities. This responsibility will grant students the realization and respect sought by individuals.
I believe wisdom is created through experiences and active learning. Public interaction and applying classroom material provides students tangible evidence that scholarly material is evident in everyday society. I will propose questions that will lead in-class discussions and result in self-discovery. Every student needs to be aware the discussions may or may not coincide with his or her personal beliefs. Regardless of whether the discussions do or do not match, each student will be entitled to voice his or her viewpoints and in return have respectful listening from peers and myself. Group projects will be implemented to teach teamwork, leadership, and how to work with peers. However, the group is only as strong as its weakest link; therefore, each student must demonstrate how he or she contributed to the group.
With dedicated work ethic students will witness extraordinary results. Setting obtainable, ambitious goals pertaining to the students’ performance is vital. This challenges students to reach within to produce high-quality results. The desired outcomes may not happen instantly; nevertheless, the results will unfold with its’ own rhythm. I believe encouragement will yield success. Positive attitudes and constructive feedback on assessment materials and discussions will persuade students to continue to shatter his or her personal best.
Just as I expect students to achieve excellence, the students should expect professionalism from me. Clear boundaries will be set and a relaxed atmosphere will be achieved. By not blindsiding students with assessments, allowing an ample timeline for projects, and staying on track during lectures will help me earn their respect. In addition, maintaining communication accessibility will be stressed throughout the course by implementing an open door policy, same day email recognition, and access to phone numbers.
By embracing my beliefs and values, I will enrich traditional and non-traditional undergraduate students outlook on the course. In return, students will gain self-perseverance, self-confidence, and self-improvement. Above all, I will strive to have the course significant, rewarding, and applicable.
