For the bachelorette party we had a girls night at the Nail Club in Watertown. It was a blast and I had my first set of 'full set' of acrylic/shellac nails. Now here are a couple of things people don't tell you: how to take off the nails, when to take off the nails, and how much it prohibits you from doing things.
So on Thursday I decided I better take them off before the honeymoon. I have never broken a nail, and I don't think it sounds fun. I did some googling and found out that I could either go to a salon and have them take off the nails or I could do it myself.
For the record I did go to the salon and it was $10 to take off those suckers! Not that bad, but still I wasn't going to pay that. So I did the second route…. I went with Evan to the local hardware store and bought 100% Acetone.

The internet said to soak each hand for 10 minutes and then scrape away the nail. So I started to soak my left hand. Weird feeling because I think your blood thins… however, I am feeling pretty good here. After 10 minutes I took out my hand tried to 'gently massage' the nail off, but no luck!! After sticking my hand back into the solution for another 10 minutes and trying again I realized this was not going to be an easy process.

I was getting a little impatient with this process and finally I asked Evan to help me. He had been watching me this entire time because what hubby would leave their wife while she was Acetoning her hand?! He googled how to remove shellac nails and discovered we had to heat up water and stick a bagging of Acetone in it. Horrible smell! In case you didn't know, Acetone dries out your hand and nails. So here I am Acetoning it again… I feel pretty special.

We finally started to rip off my nails. Evan would work the nail so the side started to come up and then started to rip it off.
I screamed.
Evan laughed.
I cried.
Evan patted my back.
I whined.
Evan made a video of me at my most vulnerable moment.
If you want to torture people make them feel pretty and than rip it off.

After 1.5hours all my fake nails were laying on the counter. From soaking my hands in Acetone for 1.5hours they are completely mushy… and not the cute kind.
In conclusion, I saved $2.66 from doing it myself. I provided Evan a sick form of entertainment. This was our first DIY project as a married couple...AND I have endorsed the "Beauty is Pain" campaign.
