Last night Evan and I couldn't sleep, so we decided to watch a little online television. As you may know we LOVE 48 Hours Mystery. It scares me to death, but still love it. Anyways, we discovered a new show called Stalked. Creepy, yes. Scary, yes. Wrong tv choice, yes!
After we watched two episodes we decided to try to go back to bed. However, so many bad memories flooded my mind. When I lived in Sioux Falls I was stalked. This man started by sending me 'love' mail to my office. Not one or two letters, but several. Then he went to 'hanging' out near the stadium where I worked. It got to be too much and the police got involved. However, he didn't stop. He left messages on my office phone at night and continued to write me messages. Fortunately I knew I was moving away soon to return to graduate school. However, he left one more big bang. He created false Twitter and Facebook accounts and write me messages confessing his 'feelings' and how he had spied me while I was out and about. That was the tipping point… he had left his mark and I was traumatized.
Now in my newest city I have started over again. Yet, I seem to have attracted another 'fan.' John hangs out at the closest Caribou and writes poems and sketches pictures. I had always noticed him starring at me while I worked on wedding stuff and job applications. Then one day he decided to talk to me. He told me that he is a recovery AA and is jobless/homeless. There is nothing wrong with this; however, I knew something was a little off. After a while he left me alone. The next week he came up to me again and told me how he had written a poem about the 'girl with the SDSU shirt' and hoped to get it published. Also, that he had missed me at Caribou during the last few days. Honestly, I was creeped out and have not been back to that Caribou.
Long story short, be cautious! Evan and I talked about how the show was super scary and how lucky I was to move from SF when it was getting weird. He also understands how paranoid I get when he travels (he travels about 50% of the time). When I hear the door bell I literally run the other direction. It is something just from my past. Okay, I got way side tracked, but if you want to watch a scary show just watch Stalked. It will make your skin crawl and make you check over your shoulder twice… also teach your kiddos not to talk to strangers. Stranger Danger!!
