We scheduled with our realtor to look at the house the next day. After we made the call, we decided to drive by it and get a 'feel' of everything. As we drove into the neighborhood, let's just say we knew SOMETHING was wrong, because this wasn't the typical "Emily and Evan Hood." These were gorgeous houses with families walking and playing outside… and the garage doors were OPEN. This is crazy because we are not in South Dakota anymore. Okay, let me explain. In the cities I have been forewarned that you always close and lock your doors immediately, otherwise someone is going to wonder in. Am I paranoid? Yes. But if someone wants to get my stuff I at least want them to work for it! Okay, I'm getting sidetracked. Just know this neighborhood had houses in the 300K range, and the house for sale was not even close to that.
As we stopped in front of the house Evan pulled up the details of the house on his phone. I starred at it and noticed that there was a car in the driveway. It was a commercial vehicle, so I wasn't sure if that was the owners or a repair man. Either way I decided we should talk with them that night. Evan wasn't too sure if we should go knock on the door, and honestly I wasn't too sure. People can be crazy. Just as we were going to drive away a couple walked out and I decided I was going to pounce them! Evan and I scrambled out of the vehicle and waved. The vehicle stopped and we explained our situation. It turned out they were 'house flippers' and this was a potential project.
They explained that the house was just put back on the market. The buyer backed out during the last signing because they learned some disturbing news. I guessed the house had a mouse because that would be my worst nightmare. (I am still in awe that I survived Disney World with the giant Mickey Mouse.) But that wasn't the bad news! So what could be more disturbing? They explained the house had gotten flooded and there was mold in the walls and the basement would need to get gutted. For some reason I wasn't too scared by that. Yes, it is a lot of money, but it is fixable. However, the house flippers didn't stop there. They said icing on the cake was that the previous owner had committed suicide in the house.
Personally, that is a little sketch. Is that why the basement flooded because they didn't know he was dead? Was there blood? Was it haunted? All these thoughts flooded my head, yet I wasn't too troubled because I remembered coming home to Nick and his cremated mother in our living room. Sometimes three is company, but I would have done it. Besides when Evan is traveling I wouldn't be lonely because I would have Floyd. Who needs a dog that has to be walked when you have a spirit that doesn't require doggie doo-doo bags?! Floyd wouldn't!
Too bad the house was snatched up by another lucky couple a few days later. Happy Haunting House!
