I'm at it again. I said I would never go back. Give me a break though… it was convenient and worked with my schedule.
Grounds Crew Summer Two.
Before I tell you all about my first day here are the two major changes:
1.) Sarah and Megan were there to keep me sane. I realized today how much I'll treasure our random talks, bathroom stops, and support.
2.) I'm working for athletic grounds crew.
Okay here is how May 9th went. I got up at 6:30 a.m. and with stylish fashion jumped on Scoot at 6:42 a.m. No need for make-up, fixing hair, or checking the weather. I learned from last year's ground crew none of this is necessary because you're going to get dirty and gross no matter what.
When I arrived I was surprised to see that there are literally no other girls working for the first month. My bosses are really nice and told me to follow Bob around for the summer mornings.
Here is the stats on Bob-ilicious:
68 years old, man of few words except "bloody hell", loves to hunt and fish, used to be the former SDSU grounds leader, and doesn't really finish his sentences on where I need to go next. (At one point he left me at Coughlin-Alumni Stadium while he went back to the shed. He didn't finish the thought to tell me to follow him with the pickup.)
During the morning, Bob and I drove to four stores in Brookings to get paint, a mower, and stickers. I think he just likes my company because I did nothing on these errands except awkwardly sit in the pickup. Also, I didn't want him to give him high hopes that I knew what I was doing, so I told him I can do stuff, but I need it explained thoroughly.
At lunch I decided to run hills on the wellness center treadmills. I only went thirty minutes but was dripping… yes, I make great first impressions on the first day.
During the afternoon I was in charge of mowing. EASY. However, I still haven't mastered the skill of listening. I ended up mowing two areas that were not suppose to. On the flip side I'm going to have killer arms because the tractor mower is terribly hard to turn.
During week #1 I mowed a grand total of 24 hours.
SDSU should invest in horses to graze the lawn and provide manure. Plus it would be gasoline-free.
