Phone Calls

Yesterday I was 'soliciting' businesses for items for the silent and live auction at the scholarship auction on April 30th when I called the most interesting fellow.  All I asked was if he wanted to donate an item.  And these were the highlights/lowlights of 15 minute story:

* Involved with a car accident 3 years ago.  Not his fault.  Had all his limbs basically replaced.
* Goes to physical therapy from 1-2 each day.
* His wife left him.
* He went to school with Stan Marshall's daughter.
* Lives by a lake and was going to sandbag for the rest of the day.
* Is very optimistic.
* Went to school at SDSU.
* Has 3 kids.  None are around anymore, but he isn't lonely.
* Loves God. Loves Brookings. Loves his business.
* He only spends 5 minutes at the post office, but puts a sign that says 15 minutes on his business door.

That guy was EXTREMELY nice, but I had no idea what to say during this conversation… it ended up being a lot of "wowser" "you sure are resilient!" "oh my goodness."

I don't know how I get these conversations.  Everyone has a story and I am the chosen one to hear them.
