A day with Noble..

I visited Noble today and wow, older people are rowdy!  I went because it was the day Noble and another guy named Bob were going to show off his scrapbook to the other residents.  This guy named Bob is apparently a comedian at Greenleaf.

All the residents went into the dining hall and the activities director asked me to say a few words about why and what this scrapbook was for.  I did my little talk, and told how Noble has become a special person to me.  After that Bob got up to talk about his experience… unfortunately, Scott (my classmate) was not there to talk.

So this is how Bob described it:
"This guy came and would sit in my room.  He didn't say a whole lot, but everyone once in a while he would slip in a question.  It took him about a month to figure out what to say to me.  Good guy and his wife finally got a job."

I had to giggle, because Scott explained the situation a little different.  He said that Bob didn't really want anything to do with him.  So they would watch tv, and do 'man' talking.  I guess what Scott calls 'man talking' is 'slipping in questions' to Bob.

Then Bob started to talk about how Uncle Sam called him.  First, off I had no idea what that meant… I thought it meant the US was after Bob for taxes.  Apparently it is being drafted into the army (Noble leaned over to inform me of this :)) While Bob was boasting about his experience, a little lady off to the side proudly said "My husband was in the army!"  Bob shot her down by saying "Salvation army does not count!!"  It went back and forth and finally the lady took a stab at Bob by asking how tall he was.  Bob responded 6'2".  The lady heckled saying more like 5'2"!  Bob was instantly quiet.  Crazy folks!

Noble and I had a good time chatting, and I guess he has been thinking of more stories for me to write down.  Next time I will take my note book and continue to add to his legacy.  At 93 years old, I know he has a few more up his sleeve :)
