Cell 53754

Inmates work in the same facility as the grounds keepers.  I know everyone is pretty jealous that I get the opportunity to meet these fine individuals and talk to them.  However, this week proved why I should not be allowed near them.

We watched a video on how to act and treat them.  However, I believe they should be treated the same.  So I am friendly and wave eagerly at them.  Now why it is wrong....

So after the weekend here was my conversation with a 25 year old male convict:
Convict: So did you do anything fun?
Me: Oh, had a golf tourney that I worked and went home for Sunday to see my niece.  I live kind of a boring life.
Convict: Nah, you want a boring life... I didn't have a boring one and look at me.
Me: um, well I am sure you had a fun weekend!  What did you do?
Convict: I sat in my cell.
Me: Shoot....

A day passes and the same convict and I interact again.

I pull up to fill the watering truck.
Convict: Hey, I was thinking about you last night and wrote you a letter.  You better not tell anyone I did or else I will get in trouble.
Me: um, okay! Thanks! (I stuff it into my pocket and go to lunch).

At lunch I read the letter and call my mom.  The letter talked about how he had 23 months left until his parole and how maybe we could write each other.  He was in for controlled substance aka drug dealer.  Also he told me what cell he was in: 53754.  Special.  I asked my mom what to do.  She said he was harmless and if I did write him to not put her return address on there.  OBVIOUSLY! Gosh.

So I returned to work and told my bosses I needed to talk to them.  They told me talk right than and there, but the convict I could tell was watching me and I kind of was freaked out.  So I made them come to the trees I was watering.

Joni: Did one slapped your ass.
Me: NO!  But they did write me a letter and I turned it in.  I don't want to be a nark though...
Joni: They are felons!
Me: They are people!
Joni: Emily, you aren't going to marry this guy.
Me: Two-shay.

That afternoon was really awkward because he just watched me.  He didn't know what was coming later that evening.  I was informed that my special friend would not be returning because he violated his rules.  I was also told not to be so friendly to them.  Chalk that up for another creeper.

Oh yes, and when the other convicts asked who the girl was my boss gladly described me.  Wonderful!  Now I have three guys in orange suits watching me thinking I'm a nark.  Ughers.

Just remember.... They are not State employees, but they are convicted felons.
